The drumming didn’t cease
Even though the party was over
We carried it in our hearts
The next day
We felt the lightness of their feet
And the steadiness of their song
As they wished us well
And thanked us grandly
We felt but tried not to feel
The sadness in their eyes,
The pain in their limbs,
And the burning in their hearts.
